The bible has been studied by more people than we can count.
The first chapter of Genesis has to be a top area of study.
Tunneling down a bit more we have Genesis 1:26-28.
You know it – in fact you know it well.
It is here that Moses describes the creation of humans.
I’m sure there is not much I can really add to the analysis of what god had in mind when he created humans.
But I think it good to remind ourselves from time to time what our creation is all about.
We are Blessed to be Created in the Image of God
Here is how we came about.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Before we start let’s look at Genesis 2:7.
…then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
This tells how god created our physical being. god used all the chemistry of the earth to create biological man and it was He that gave us our first breath.
Genesis 1:26-28 adds our spirituality.
God turned the spiritual into the physical.
We are made in the image of the Godhead – in the likeness of the Godhead.
We are spiritual beings – we have intelligence – we have choice.
We are moral beings – we have moral integrity and the holiness of Christ.
We rule or have dominion over all the earth and all creatures.
And because God loves us He blessed us. (see verse 28)
Now here’s an aside: In John 1 we learn that God created us through Jesus. So Jesus was present during creation. In Ephesians 1 we learn that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ. We’ve been blessed in Christ since the beginning of time.
Do we really look at ourselves in this way?
When we look in the mirror (for me that’s a scary thought) do we:
- see our spiritual selves?
- see our moral selves?
- see ourselves as leaders?
- see ourselves as blessed?
If we don’t see ourselves in these ways in the quiet of the morning what are we to do when we’re under stress?
It might be a good idea when we call on God to start by thanking Him for how He created us.
Doesn’t being in the image of God give us boldness to keep moving forward.
I write a number of posts to remind myself of the greatness go our God. This surely is the case here.
I’d like to here from you – especially how you use being created in the image of God to give you strength.
Is the blessing of our creation part of our message as disciples? How?
